In lieu of photos ...

I've felt so bad because I haven't been able to share photos lately. I plan on seeing my in-laws this weekend so that I can finally get my camera back because I feel lost without it (then again ... maybe the camera isn't there and it's lost and I need to buy a new Digital Rebel instead. Nah, Brian would never fall for it! LOL). Anyways, back to the lack of photos. I figured since I can't share photos right now I would just share a few of my recent layouts. They're all from one of the upcoming May kits at ScrapAddict.

LOVE those layouts - and the kits seem really cool - may have to check them out.

But, once again, I have to pack up my scrapping stuff for several months...WAAAAAH!

Book Club

Living in Scappoose for so long has finally meant we've put down roots. We've met a lot of people and are involved in the community. I've made friends, mainly through work and scouts. But what's most precious to me here, besides my own family, is the book club girls. Book club was started about 2 1/2 years ago and started out with a group of scout moms and a few of their friends. Our numbers are up to 7 now and we meet monthly, rotating houses so everyone hosts. I really love how book club makes me go out of my way to read something I otherwise wouldn't or to see life in a different way. I truly love my book club and look forward to our meetings, which involved food, book talk and idle chit chat. The book club girls are my friends and I'm so lucky to have them.

Better Days

I couldn't resist that title. I love that new song AND it absolutely describes today for me. After being down the last few days today has been a "better day". This morning I registered for college. Yes, after 12 years (and 3 kids), I have decided to return to school. I am signed up for my first term of classes and am aiming for my Associates in Business Administration/Accounting. It's going to be a little rough for a while. Because of Brian's rotating schedule I am having to do most classes via Distance Education (i.e. interenet or TV courses). Will be a whole different way to learn and I hope it works out for me. I've always been a numbers sort of girl and have enjoyed the accounting work I did before having kids. I'm just excited about the prospects of getting my education and returning to the workforce once Carissa is in school full time. WAHOO!!!!

Yes, it's the reveal of our big news. Brian has a new job! He will be working as an Officer for the Scappoose Police Department. This has been a long process for us. He interviewed a while ago and finally got a call from the Chief on Oct. 10, when I posted the excited but vague message here. Since then he's gone through a background interview and investigation, and medical and psychological evaluations. We have stressed over the entire process, worrying that something would go wrong along the way, but today the Chief called to let him know that he passed and was good to go. He has a public swearing-in ceremony on Nov. 27, which we are all excited to attend. He'll work with a Field Training Officer (FTO) until he leaves for the Academy in (probably) January. He'll be gone there for 16 weeks, though he will get to come home on weekends. He'll finish work with his FTO after returning from the Academy, but by next summer he will be patroling the streets on his own. This...
