Allow me to gloat...

Just indulge me a little Mommy moment here please.

So Chase joined Boy Scouts in February and has taken to it quite well. He enjoys the camping and outdoors activities. He went to summer camp for the first time as a Boy Scout this summer and worked really hard when I was there. He earned 4 merit badges while at camp. Then he came home and finished the partial one that he had from camp. Then he earned one more. He also completed all the activities to advance to his next rank.


So along comes Court of Honor, which is the big hoopla ceremony to award the boys the badges that they've earned in the last 6 months. Not only did Chase get his Tenderfood rank, one of four who got it -- two who joined the same time didn't even get it.



Chase also earned six merit badges. Six. Read 'em and weep. This kid had the most merit badges of the 25 kids in his troop. I'm so proud of him and he is thrilled for himself. The next day we went out and bought him the much coveted merit badge sash, which you can't wear until you've earned at least 5 badges. There's boys who have been in the troop a year longer than him who still don't have it. He proudly wore it to his next meeting.


OK, so there's my Mommy gushing for today. ;)

Good for him....and now comes the sewing on of the badges...and sewing, and sewing and sewing....

aww congrats. ROFL at Catherine. I know the badge sewing well, in fact so well that I've taken to putting on Madison's with fabric glue

i stapled some of my kids on LOL Congrats to him..he should be totally proud..that's a huge accomplishment....frankly it's a lot of hard work..and we had a lot of boys at that level that did nothing..it's a good motivator for them to see someone earning them!

Height Check ...

I knew it would happen eventually -- today just happened to be the day. Twice a year we mark the kids heights and ages on our piece of wood kept especially for this purpose. The last several years Tristan has been steadily gaining inches on Chase, coming closer and closer to Chase's height. Today was the day when he surpassed his brothers height. Take a look at the closeup of the stick. Tristan, at age 9 1/2, just barely edged out Chase, age 11 1/2. While Chase knew it was coming, he is not exactly thrilled at the prospect of being smaller than his "little" brother. He, understandably, does not think this is fair. We've had some very frank discussions the last few months about the fact that Tristan is going to be bigger. He has Brian's "big" gene and is going to be a tall and brawny guy like his Dad. I hate exercise

I do. I hate it. I know there are some people that love exercising, but I am not one of them. The 40 minutes I force myself to walk the treadmill are the longest, most excruciating 40 minutes of my life. I've never been a physical kind of girl - I never did sports as a child, never worked out, etc. So someone please tell me the secret to loving exercise because at this point I am NOT getting it!
