Scotland, here we come

One thing Brian and I have come to enjoy is a nice, relaxing morning and that’s what we got today. A lazy wake up, followed by some breakfast and the last few items packed, then we were off to our new destination - Scotland!

Once we got through the short flight (only 40 minutes in the air!) and to our AirBNB, it was early afternoon. We decided to start the Rick Steves walking tour of the Royal Mile, so made our way to the starting point - Edinburgh Castle. To get there you had to take “Granny’s Green Stairs” from our place to the castle. Holy stairs, Batman. The thighs were burning when we got to the top, as there must have been 8-10 flights of ridiculously steep stairs. It was crazy!

Once we got to the top of the stairs we saw the castle. My first thought was that it isn’t very big. It doesn’t have fancy towers or huge structures so it was less impressive than the Disney version we are used to seeing. LOL But we couldn’t be this close and not go inside.

42 pounds later (cash, not weight) and Brian and I were inside. Honestly, he and I were both super underwhelmed by the castle. The only things we really liked were the chapel, the jail and the best part - the great hall. The rest they’ve tried to turn into some tourist trap and it just isn’t that intriguing. Bummer.

Next we decided to stroll down the Royal Mile and follow the tour, but our heads weren’t into it today. We went in a lot of shops where we ogled over all the adorable purses, Tartan, coats of arms, scarves and more.

We did come across this old church. I, of course, wanted to go and Brian was a good sport. It was the weirdest thing though... if you want to take photos while in the church they charge you 2 pounds for a “permit” to snap photos. I paid because it was a church and I can’t have bad juju.

We grabbed some dinner and then turned in early, relaxing and putting on some Netflix before heading to bed. Tomorrow, we see more of Edinburgh.
