Come and Gone ...

Our time with Jimmy, Virginia and Randal has come and gone. It was great to see them all and to cuddle my new nephew. And it's great to see Jimmy and Virginia starting a family of their own ... they're great parents, as I always knew they would be.

Baby Randal is such a sweet thing. I particularly enjoyed holding him and it reminded me how long it's been since one of my kids was that tiny. He was such a good baby. Very quiet but with an adorable smile and little cooing noises all his own.

The kids, of course, thought Randal was just a gem. They kept walking up to him and touching his hand and talking to him. And they all took their turns holding him.

Brian and I took our turns with Randal too ...
And of course, who can forget my little brother and his son. It was so nice to see him interact with Randal and I just can't get over the little things he would say. My favorite was when Randal was starting to get fussy and Jimmy would say "Oh no, not Mr. Grumpy" in a silly way while tickeling Randal. Just so touching.

But now our time is over. Jimmy and Virginia have flown to Idaho to spend some time with her family before returning to Italy. It was such a quick visit, but so totally appreciated.

It will be about 18 months before they move back to the states and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for his orders to send them back to the Northwest again. I would be great to be able to see Randal grow up and interact with his cousins.

Beyond the baby, it was just nice to see Jimmy and Virginia again. And no matter where they end up, they will always be welcomed here with open arms. We miss you already!

We miss you already too. I wish we could have stayed longer. I'm back to work and now I'm Mr. Grumpy!
